Police Arrest Four Suspected Gun-Runners in Follow-Up to Oghenemine’s Death Probe
The Delta State Police Command says it has arrested four suspected members of a gun-running syndicate in connection with the investigation that followed the controversial killing of Oghenemine Ogidi in Effurun.
According to the police, the arrests stem from a probe into the recovery of a Beretta pistol at a motor park in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area, on May 1, 2026. The case attracted public attention after Ogidi was allegedly killed by ASP Usman Nuhu during the incident.
Police said the suspects — Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, Clifford Boleyelefa, Amadi Princewill, and Amadi Felix Chibuike — were apprehended during intelligence-led operations in Bayelsa and Imo states.
Chukwuemeka was arrested in Bayelsa on May 4, 2026. He allegedly admitted using a friend’s phone to arrange the purchase of the firearm and told investigators he bought the pistol from Princewill for ₦290,000 before selling it to a man identified only as Desmond for ₦380,000.
Desmond (at large) then sent the weapon to Effurun and contacted Ogidi to collect it and forward it to Sapele.
Following that confession, officers tracked down Princewill in Imo State on May 15, 2026. During questioning, Princewill allegedly said he had obtained the pistol from Amadi Felix Chibuike for ₦200,000. Felix was subsequently arrested in Owerri on May 16, police said.
The suspects are believed to be members of the Black Axe confraternity.
Police added that they will be charged in court after investigations are completed, while efforts continue to locate other suspects, including Desmond, who remains at large.
