Pirah Appeals for Peace After Deadly Ogidigben Clash

Mr. Omamofe Joseph Pirah has condemned the violent crisis that erupted in Ogidigben Community, Delta State, which resulted in the death of Mr. Onuwaje and the destruction of several houses, warning that the incident threatens the unity and future of the community.

Pirah, a prominent son of Ogidigben, expressed deep grief over the loss of life and property, noting that the community has invested years of effort in building peace and promoting development across Ogidigben and the wider Ugborodo confederated communities. He stressed that these gains must not be undermined by internal strife.

Emphasising his position, Pirah stated that every community member has the right to aspire to leadership positions within the Community Management Committee or Trust, provided such ambitions are guided by sincerity and a genuine commitment to collective progress. He cautioned that leadership pursuits should never degenerate into rivalry, violence, or attacks against fellow residents.

He further pointed out that Ogidigben and neighbouring communities are already burdened by unresolved issues with International Oil Companies operating in the area, particularly in relation to employment opportunities and development obligations. According to Pirah, internal conflict only weakens the community’s capacity to confront these external challenges.

Calling for restraint, Pirah reminded residents that they are bound by shared history and common struggles, urging them to channel their energy toward unity rather than division. He appealed to the Eghare-Aja, Olaja-Orori, and other Ugborodo leaders to urgently engage His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, in efforts to address the root causes of the crisis and restore inclusiveness.

Pirah also called on security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation into the violence and ensure that all those responsible are held accountable, insisting that justice must be served without exception.
