PDP Governors Set to Challenge Rivers Emergency Rule
Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have announced plans to challenge the emergency rule imposed in Rivers State. This follows President Bola Tinubu’s decision on March 18, 2025, to dissolve the state government and appoint an administrator.
During a Zoom meeting on Friday, March 21, PDP governors expressed their intention to contest the declaration. A statement signed by the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed, reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the Constitution and ensuring democratic governance. The governors condemned the suspension of the Rivers State Governor, Deputy Governor, and the state assembly members, calling it unconstitutional.

The governors also resolved to direct their Attorneys General to seek judicial interpretation of Section 305(3) of the Nigerian Constitution, which underpins the emergency rule.
They expressed solidarity with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the people of the state, urging them not to succumb to what they called “atrocious intimidation.”
Key figures at the meeting included Governors Fubara, Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Sir Monday Onyeme (Delta State) – Deputy Governor and several others.
