PDP Expels Awani, Ex Warri South Local Government Chairmanship Aspirant

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Delta State has officially expelled a member of its Warri South Local Government Area chapter, Esimaje Awani citing multiple breaches of the party’s constitution.

In a statement issued by Warri South PDP Chairman, Richard Pessu on Wednesday, February 26, the party outlined that Awani had violated several key provisions, including Articles 57, 58, and 59 of the PDP constitution. The expulsion notice comes after Awani received a suspension letter dated December 5, 2024, which he allegedly failed to comply with.

Recall that Awani’s political support organisation had passed a vote of confidence on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Saturday February 22 and urge for equal dividends of democracy especially in Warri South Local Government Area. Awani further issued a two-weeks ultimatum for the retraction of the suspension letter circulated on social media without personal interrogation.

In a chat with Warri Sentinel, Austin Edon, Ward Secretary confirmed the party’s action and highlighted that Awani’s actions went against the party’s disciplinary guidelines, particularly breaching Article 58(1), which deals with misconduct and other forms of anti-party activities. The expulsion follows a recommendation by the party’s Disciplinary Committee.

“The expulsion means that all privileges previously associated with Awani’s membership in the PDP are hereby revoked,” the statement said. The party further warned that failure to adhere to the directive could lead to further enforcement measures.

This action adds to the ongoing efforts by the PDP to maintain discipline and unity within its ranks, ensuring that all members abide by the established constitutional framework.
