One Dead, Three Injured in Aboh Clash

One person has been killed and three others injured in a violent confrontation in Aboh, Delta State, following tensions surrounding the conferment of a chieftaincy title. The incident occurred on Sunday, creating heightened unrest within the community.

According to local sources, the clash broke out when members of a faction opposed to the chieftaincy title attempted to disrupt a procession celebrating the newly titled individual. The procession, which involved dancing around the community, provoked violent resistance from the opposing group, resulting in gunfire.

The injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, but one person later died from their wounds.
Delta State Police spokesperson Mr. Bright Edafe confirmed the incident, stating that the violence stemmed from a long-standing division within the community.

In a bid to quell further violence, the Chairman of Ndokwa East Local Government Area, Mr Vincent Osilonya, announced a curfew in Aboh from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM.

The violent clash comes on the heels of a significant moment for the Aboh Kingdom, with the recent installation of Dr. Gregory Nnamdi Oputa III as the 20th Obi of Aboh. The development has stirred local agitations, heightening tensions in the area.
