Olu of Warri, Others Present as Warri North Chairman Unveils Oboghoro Housing

The Chairman of Warri North Local Government Area, Festus Ashima, has officially inaugurated six newly constructed two-bedroom affordable housing units in Oboghoro community. The commissioning was one of the key activities marking the second day of the 2024 Oboghoro Festival, which celebrates the region’s cultural heritage.

During the ceremony, Ashima stated that the housing project reflects his administration’s dedication to improving the living conditions of local residents. He credited the support of Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and his M.O.R.E. agenda for the successful completion of the initiative, as well as the efforts of the contractors involved.

“This project is more than just buildings, it’s about enhancing the quality of life for our people,” Ashima said. “I encourage the beneficiaries to make the most of these homes, and to work together to build a stronger, more prosperous community.”

The event was attended by notable figures, including the Olu of Warri, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, former President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, and other community leaders.

Hon. Godwin Ebosa, leader of Oboghoro, spoke about the potential for transforming the challenges faced by rural communities into opportunities for growth. Drawing comparisons to successful global cities, he suggested that Oboghoro’s unique features could be developed into world-class tourist attractions with the right vision. Ebosa also noted ongoing environmental initiatives, including a 700km shoreline protection project funded by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), aimed at safeguarding the area from the effects of sea surges.

Speaking further, Ebosa thanked the Warri monarch for attending the event, which coincided with the conclusion of the ceremonial palace watch, Ghigho Aghofen.

On his part, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor commended Ashima’s initiative, urging other community leaders to adopt similar approaches to development. “This is the kind of forward-thinking leadership that Nigeria needs,” Oritsejafor said.

Former Warri North Chairman and Delta South Senatorial District aspirant, Michael Diden, reflected on the transformation of Oboghoro from a rural settlement into a growing township. He expressed hope that other local government leaders would follow Ashima’s example in driving meaningful development.

The commissioning of the affordable housing units marks a significant step in improving the region’s infrastructure and the well-being of its residents, with hopes that it will pave the way for further community growth.
