Oborevwori Set To Implement New National Minimum Wage In Delta
Delta Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori has approved the establishment of a committee that will fast track the implementation of the new minimum wage, Warri Sentinel has learnt.
The committee is expected to facilitate discussions between Delta State Government and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) In a bid to cushion the effect of the harsh economy in the state.
Delta State Commissioner for Information, Ifeanyi Osuoza, made this announcement on Wednesday, August 14, while briefing newsmen after an Executive Council meeting which was held at Government House, Asaba.
The Commissioner stated that Delta workers will not earn less than the N70,000 approved minimum wage. However, he did not say if the state government will pay more.
Furthermore, Dr. Osuoza revealed that Governor Oborevwori has directed the Commissioner of Agriculture and the Chief Job Creation Officer to generate programs especially for youths that will alleviate poverty in the state.
The committee is expected to finalize its adjustments within a week.
Recall President Bola Tinubu on July 18, 2024 increased the national minimum wage from N62,000 to N70,000, pledging to review it every three years.
