Oborevwori Orders Suspension of Rector, Bursar of Delta Poly

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has approved the immediate suspension of the Rector and Bursar of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, for a period of six months. The governor, who is Visitor to the institution, also ratified the prior suspension of the Registrar, earlier effected by the Polytechnic’s Governing Council.

The decision, announced in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Eze Emu, follows allegations of administrative irregularities and financial misconduct levelled against the principal officers. The suspension, the statement noted, is aimed at ensuring an unfettered, thorough, and impartial investigation into the issues raised.

According to the directive, the Deputy Rector will assume office as Acting Rector during the suspension period, while the most senior officer in the Bursary Department will serve as Acting Bursar pending the outcome of the investigation.

Dr. Emu emphasized that the state government expects high standards of accountability, transparency, and professionalism from heads of tertiary institutions, adding that the present administration remains committed to safeguarding the integrity of public educational establishments.

Stakeholders in the state’s education sector have described the move as a decisive step toward reinforcing ethical governance and institutional discipline within the Polytechnic system. The government has assured that its final decision will be guided strictly by the findings of the investigative panel currently being set in motion.

The statement urged staff and students of the Polytechnic to remain calm and continue with their academic and administrative duties without disruption.
