Oborevwori Dismisses Ned Nwoko’s Claim of Planned APC Defection
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has denied claims that he is planning to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The denial follows remarks by Delta North Senator, Ned Nwoko, who alleged at a political event on Saturday that the governor was seeking to join the APC but was “not welcome” within its ranks.
Senator Nwoko, who himself recently defected from the PDP to the APC, made the comments during a gathering in Agbor, Ika Federal Constituency, to mark the defection of members of the Delta Unity Group, a socio-political organisation to the APC.
In response, Governor Oborevwori dismissed the claim as “laughable and baseless,” insisting he remains committed to the PDP.

Speaking on the governor’s behalf, the Director-General of the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Fred Oghenesivbe, said there was no truth to the senator’s assertion.
“We don’t have time for Ned Nwoko,” Mr Oghenesivbe said. “We’ve spoken extensively on this issue before – myself and even the commissioner, Charles Aniagwu – that the governor is not defecting.”
He also challenged the senator to produce evidence to support his claim, questioning the credibility of the remarks.
“Did Governor Sheriff tell Nwoko that he is coming to the APC?” he asked. “If Oborevwori didn’t approach Nwoko about joining the APC, where did Nwoko get that information? It doesn’t make sense to anybody.”
There has been increased political activity in Delta State in recent months, with shifting alliances and public speculation over potential defections ahead of upcoming elections. However, Governor Oborevwori’s camp has repeatedly reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP.
