Oborevwori Commissions Housing Units for Soldiers in Delta
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has handed over 30 one-bedroom flats to soldiers of the 181 Amphibious Battalion, Agbor, pledging continued support for the welfare of security personnel. The project, he said, reflects his government’s commitment to peace and development through improved living conditions for the military.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu, the governor said the housing scheme was both a welfare initiative and a morale booster for troops. He praised the former Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, for his role in attracting the barracks to Delta, while commending the Nigerian Army for its sacrifices in combating insecurity in the region.
Delta’s Commissioner for Housing, Godknows Angele, explained that the contract was awarded in March 2023 and delivered as part of the governor’s MORE Agenda on development and peace. Military commanders and local leaders at the ceremony hailed the initiative as a bold step that will strengthen security in Ika South.
The Commanding Officer of the battalion, Lt. Col. Bukar Dabo, said the intervention would significantly enhance troop welfare. Local leaders, including the Ika South council chairman and representatives of the Dein of Agbor, welcomed the project as a major boost to the safety and well-being of the community.
