Oborevwori Bans Illegal Dredging Operations
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has imposed a ban on unregulated and reckless dredging activities, citing the environmental risks they pose to local communities and infrastructure.
Oborevwori announced the decision, noting that such activities have caused significant environmental damage, threatening both public safety and the sustainability of the state’s ecosystem.
He urged the Ministry of Environment to take swift action to address the growing concerns surrounding illegal dredging operations.

Also, the mandatory registration of dredging sites and submission of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) to the Ministry of Environment within one week of this notice, immediate shutdown of illegal dredging sites operating without a valid EIA.
Others are ban on dredging activities near bridges and other critical infrastructure across the state, ban on dredging activities in residential areas to protect the health and safety of our people and ban on the haulage of wet sand or sand transported without cover by tippers within Delta State.
Meanwhile, the State’s Ministry of Environment has established a Special Compliance Monitoring Team which is set to begin operations on January 13.
