NUT Declares Three-Day Fasting & Prayer Over Abducted Oyo Teachers, Students

Nigeria Union of Teachers

The Nigeria Union of Teachers has called on teachers and residents across Oyo State to embark on a three-day fasting and prayer exercise following the abduction of a school principal, teachers, and students in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement issued by the union, the NUT said the spiritual exercise became necessary after the deadly attack on schools in the area during the early hours of Friday, May 15, 2026.

The incident reportedly led to the killing of a teacher and a commuter, while several others, including staff and students of Yawota Basic School, Yawota Community High School, and Esinele Community High School, were taken captive by the attackers.

The union noted that the state leadership of the NUT, led by Comrade Hassan Ajibola Fatai, directed members across the state to dedicate three days to fasting and prayers for the safe and unconditional release of those abducted.

The statement also urged schools to observe a joint prayer session by noon on each of the three days as part of the spiritual supplication.
