Niger Delta Group Warns Against Altering Pipeline Surveillance Contract
On Tuesday, protesters under the aegis of Concerned Niger Delta Stakeholders gathered at the National Assembly to express concerns over proposed changes to the multi-billion-naira pipeline surveillance contract currently overseen by Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited.
The demonstrators carried placards stressing the need to maintain stability in oil infrastructure and across the Niger Delta region.
Speaking to journalists, spokesperson Hon. Duduke Ebitimi stated that prior to the current surveillance arrangement, the Niger Delta experienced serious challenges that affected oil production and the local economy. He noted that the existing contract has brought about improved pipeline security, boosted oil output, strengthened collaboration with security agencies, and created employment opportunities for local youths.
Ebitimi cautioned that any abrupt changes to the contract could disrupt ongoing operations and threaten regional stability. He called on the Federal Government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to thoroughly evaluate any proposed adjustments to ensure continuity and safeguard critical oil infrastructure. “It is important that national security and economic stability are maintained while reviewing contracts of strategic importance,” he said.
