NDDC Commissions Delta State Office, Mulls Partnership with Delta Government for Warri-Escravos Road
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has commissioned its new state office complex in Warri, Delta State, signaling a renewed commitment to infrastructure development and closer collaboration with state governments across the Niger Delta.
The project, an initiative of the Commission’s 7th board, was inaugurated by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Speaking at the event, Governor Oborevwori said, “This is not about opening a new building, it shows a new sense of presence, purpose and partnership. Close, clear to see and continuous.”
The governor urged the NDDC to partner with Delta State in fixing federal roads across the region, lamenting the deplorable condition of key routes.
“I appeal to NDDC, let us work together to fix federal roads in our region. These roads have been a nightmare,” he said, noting that his administration had already begun reconstruction of the Warri–Sapele–Benin Expressway at a cost of N35 billion.
Oborevwori also expressed readiness to collaborate on the Omadino–Escravos Road, pledging Delta State’s full support for regional development under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to completing abandoned projects, recalling President Tinubu’s “marching order to fix the many abandoned projects in the Niger Delta.”
Momoh revealed that the ministry had forwarded a memo to the President for approval of the Warri-Escravos Road which will commence from Omadino in Warri South through several islands to Escravos in Ugborodo and called for expedited completion of the Abraka–Benin Road to ease traffic on the East-West Road.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on NDDC, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, praised the Commission’s progress, saying, “This office will further bring the operations of the Commission closer to the people and enhance service delivery.”
Similarly, House of Representatives Committee Chair, Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, described the project as a “symbol of renewed hope” and assured that the legislature would ensure proper utilisation of development funds.
NDDC Chairman, Chiedu Ebie, said the Commission was committed to delivering on its mandate.
Managing Director of NDDC, Chief (Dr.) Samuel Ogbuku, commended President Tinubu for his unprecedented support.
Ogbuku noted that alongside the Delta office, the NDDC was commissioning a 700-bed hostel in Bayelsa State and a 1.5km road in Ka’ataba, Rivers State, to mark the board’s second anniversary.
