The (NNS) Delta has used activities marking the Nigerian Navy’s 70th anniversary to strengthen ties with civilians through a special outreach for widows in Delta State.

Speaking at the Naval Base in Warri on Saturday, Commander of NNS Delta, Commodore Shehu Tasiu, said the initiative was aimed at supporting widows of fallen military and paramilitary personnel as well as vulnerable civilian widows.

Tasiu said the Navy recognised the sacrifices made by families of personnel who died in service, stressing that national security and community welfare are closely connected.

“When the Navy reaches out and supports struggling families, trust is built,” he said.

The event brought together widows from different communities, religious leaders, security agencies and government officials, who all called for unity, peace and responsible parenting.

Delta State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Humanitarian Affairs, Princess Pat Ajudua (represented), commended the Navy for fostering cooperation between security institutions and civilians, while also reminding widows of their legal rights under state laws.

The outreach featured distribution of food items, raffle draws and other palliatives to beneficiaries, with many widows expressing gratitude to the Navy for the support.
