NATIONWIDE STRIKE: FG, LABOUR REACH AGREEMENT TO END INDUSTRIAL ACTION

All is set for the organized Labour to call off their industrial action this week baring any alteration to the resolution reached between the Federal Government, the Nigeria Labour and Trade Union Congresses last night at the office of the Secretary to Government of the Federation.
Failure to reach an agreement on a new minimum wage on Sunday June 2, 2024 in a deadlocked tripartite meeting between the National Assembly leadership, the Executive Arm of government and the organised Labour led to an industrial action which commenced yesterday Monday June 3, 2024.
But in a latest development, the Federal Government has agreed to pay above N60,000 as the new minimum wage for workers.
The resolution which was signed by Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Minister of State for Labour and Employment on behalf of the Federal Government, Mr. Joe Ajaero, President of the NLC and Festus Osifo, President of the Trade Union Congress read in part, “The President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria is committed to a National Minimum Wage that is higher than N60,000;
“Arising from the above, the Tripartite Committee is to meet everyday for the next one week with a view to arriving at an agreeable National Minimum Wage”.
Meanwhile, on Monday, June 3, 2024 the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki has begun the commencement of the payment of N70,000 as the new minimum wage in Edo State. He revealed this in a meeting with the President of the Trade Union Congress in Benin City, Edo state.
However, the nationwide strike continues onto its second day.
