Man Remanded in Okere Prison for Allegedly Killing Nephew Over Property
A High Court sitting in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, has remanded a man, identified as Austin, in the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Okere, after being charged with the alleged murder of his nephew. The suspect was brought to court by the Delta State Police Command on Tuesday, following his arrest in connection with the fatal incident.
According to reports, the tragic event occurred on January 23, 2025, when Austin allegedly killed his nephew, the only son of his late sister, in a dispute over the properties she left behind. The incident has shocked the local community, with many expressing outrage over the circumstances surrounding the death.
Human rights activist Comrade Israel Joe was present in court, supporting the pregnant wife of the deceased. Joe, who has been calling for justice. “Justice must prevail in this matter,” he stated firmly, urging the court to ensure that the legal process holds the suspect accountable for his actions.
Austin will remain in custody at the Okere Correctional Centre while the legal proceedings continue.
