Kwankwaso Blasts FG Over Rising Insecurity, Calls for Urgent Security System Overhaul
The Vice Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has called for an urgent and comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s security architecture, expressing concern over the worsening insecurity across the country.
In a statement released on his official X account, Kwankwaso said he has “noted with grave concern the escalating wave of insecurity that has engulfed our beloved nation,” warning that “Nigeria is bleeding profusely” as violent incidents continue in several parts of the country.
He said “banditry, kidnapping for ransom, terrorism, communal clashes, and armed robbery have tragically become daily occurrences,” adding that the growing boldness of criminal groups is particularly alarming, including their alleged use of social media to taunt authorities and intimidate the public.
Describing the situation as unacceptable, he stated that “what we lack today is not resources, but the requisite political will and sincerity to confront this menace head-on,” insisting that insecurity remains solvable with decisive leadership and coordinated action.
Kwankwaso further stressed that “Nigeria’s security architecture requires an urgent and comprehensive overhaul,” adding that the country “cannot continue on this dangerous path” amid rising deaths, displacement, and economic strain.
He called for improved welfare for security personnel, stronger intelligence gathering, enhanced community policing, and increased investment in education, infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, and job creation as part of long-term solutions to insecurity.
