Kokori Women Take to Streets Over Herdsmen Attack

Women from Kokori community in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, on Tuesday, staged a peaceful protest following an attack on a 40-year-old farmer, Edafe Fresh Efeurhobo, allegedly by a herdsman.

Accompanied by youths, the protesters marched through the community, decrying repeated destruction of farmlands and worsening insecurity, while declaring a ban on herdsmen entering the area.

Efeurhobo is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital after he was reportedly attacked with a cutlass on Monday while confronting herdsmen accused of damaging his mother’s cassava farm. His mother, Mrs. Mary Fresh Efeurhobo, called on government authorities to urgently intervene as fear grips residents.

The Director-General of the Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, visited the community, condemned the incident and donated N100,000 for the victim’s medical care. Police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the attack and said investigations are ongoing.
