JUSUN Suspends Nationwide Strike, Workers to Resume June 4

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has announced the suspension of its nationwide strike, with members expected to return to their posts on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.

The decision follows a series of high-level meetings between JUSUN leaders, representatives of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, and other key stakeholders, including the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Dingyadi, and officials from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

In a statement signed by JUSUN’s National Vice President and representatives from multiple judicial chapters, the union said it had opted to pause its industrial action after lengthy negotiations. The union agreed to step down the strike in good faith, following appeals and assurances made during the talks.

Central to the agreement is a commitment from the Federal Government to release funds to the judiciary within a month. Once the disbursement is made, the government is expected to immediately begin implementing JUSUN’s demands, including the new ₦70,000 minimum wage, a 25–35% salary increase, and five months’ worth of wage awards and arrears.

The statement was endorsed by officials representing various arms of the judiciary, such as the Federal Judicial Service Commission, Court of Appeal, Federal High Court, and several courts within the Federal Capital Territory.

JUSUN has urged its members to resume work while the union continues to engage with the government to ensure that the agreed terms are fulfilled.
