JAMB Warns Against Exam Fraud, Track Cheaters with Fake Website
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has raised concerns over a growing number of UTME candidates turning to rogue websites in a bid to cheat their way through the exam process. But in a surprising twist, the board revealed that it had set up a fake website of its own designed specifically to catch those looking to cut corners.
Speaking during an inspection of the 2025 UTME mock examination in Abuja, JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed that about 180 candidates had already paid into the decoy site, thinking they were buying access to exam questions.
“We opened our own rogue website,” Oloyede said. “As of this morning, about 180 students had paid into it. And for attempting to cheat, they’re already in violation. We’ll be taking firm action. Their UTME and Direct Entry results will be cancelled.”

He emphasized that the move was part of JAMB’s broader effort to stay ahead of exam malpractice, adding that while candidates are getting more creative, the board is also becoming more proactive.
“This isn’t just about catching people, it’s about sending a message. The only way to pass the UTME is by studying,” he added.
The Registrar also warned students against registering for the UTME through schools or third parties, saying some institutions misuse candidate information to boost their reputation.
“There are cases where schools and even state officials celebrate inflated scores that were manipulated. This is not a school-based exam. Candidates register individually, and they must protect their details.”
Over 211,000 students participated in Thursday’s UTME mock exam, which serves as a trial run ahead of the main test. The results, according to JAMB, will be released on Friday.
While the mock is mainly to test systems and strategies, Oloyede stressed that it also helps JAMB identify weaknesses and improve its processes before the real deal.
