INEC Proposes New RAs, Constituencies in Warri Delineation
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented a proposal on the delineation exercise for the Warri Federal Constituency, recommending new Registration Areas (RAs) and additional state constituencies across Warri South, Warri North, and Warri South-West Local Government Areas of Delta State.
The proposal was unveiled during a stakeholders’ meeting attended by Ijaw, Itsekiri, and Urhobo leaders, with INEC stressing that the document remains subject to debate, review, and stakeholder input before any final decision is reached.
Under the proposal, Warri North would have two constituencies with 10 wards each for the Itsekiri and Ijaw groups respectively, while Warri South-West would have 13 wards for the Ijaw-dominated constituency and seven for the Itsekiri-dominated constituency.
In Warri South, the proposal allocates 20 wards — nine to the Urhobo, eight to the Itsekiri, and three to the Ijaw communities.
Speaking after the meeting, a stakeholder representative disclosed that INEC urged all parties to study the proposal and submit observations to the commission.
The proposal is expected to spark further political and community discussions across the Warri Federal Constituency.
The development comes two years after the Commission presented its field report on the exercise which led to protests and counter protests by stakeholders.
