FUPRE Secures ₦3.5bn Solar Project to Boost Energy Supply
The Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE) is set to boost its power supply with a ₦3.5 billion, two-megawatt solar project approved as part of efforts to reduce reliance on external energy sources.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ezekiel O. Agbalagba, made this known during the presentation of his one-year scorecard, stating that the institution is also working toward a larger 10-megawatt electricity system to serve the entire campus. He noted that the move aligns with the university’s long-term sustainability goals.
Beyond energy, the university has carried out over 20 capital projects, including improved lecture halls, expanded student accommodation, and solar-powered installations. Academic activities have also seen stability, with all seven programmes submitted for accreditation in 2025 receiving full approval, alongside the adoption of computer-based testing.
The institution has equally deepened its engagement with industry, securing a ₦150 million training deal with a refinery firm and pushing forward with plans to commercialise 15 nano-based research outputs. Agbalagba urged greater investment and collaboration to maintain the pace of development.
