Delineation: Itsekiri Group Backs INEC, Warns Against Threats of Crisis
The National Association of Itsekiri Graduates (NAIG) has reaffirmed its support for the suspension of the ward delineation process in Warri Federal Constituency, maintaining that the decision remains necessary in light of lingering concerns over the exercise.
In a statement reacting to a recent joint press briefing by Urhobo and Ijaw groups, the association rejected calls for the immediate implementation of the suspended delineation report, arguing that such demands ignore critical issues that led to its suspension.
The group pointed to allegations of fraud, procedural irregularities, lack of transparency, and distortions in demographic representation, warning that adopting the report in its current form could compromise electoral integrity and marginalise affected communities.
It urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to sustain the suspension pending a thorough and transparent review, stressing that any future delineation must be guided by constitutional provisions, verified data, and inclusive stakeholder consultations.
The association also warned that threats of unrest over unmet demands could escalate tensions in Warri Federal Constituency, risking conflict, undermining democratic processes, and creating fear around the electoral process.
Reaffirming its commitment to justice, equity, and due process, the group urged all parties to remain calm, pursue dialogue through lawful channels, and prioritise unity and stability in Warri Federal Constituency.
