FG Rejects Genocide Claims Against Christians, Calls for Unity

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has challenged allegations that terrorists are targeting Christians in a systematic genocide. He cautioned against viewing the country’s security issues as a one-sided religious attack.

Idris stressed that extremist violence has impacted Nigerians across all religious groups Muslims, Christians, and even those without religious ties. He stressed that the security challenges Nigeria faces are complex and cannot be simplified as an assault on any single faith community.

The Minister further warned that framing the conflict as a targeted campaign against Christians risks deepening divisions within the country. While Nigeria continues to battle terrorism, he urged a more balanced understanding of the situation that acknowledges the wider context of insecurity.

Rejecting the narrative of religious persecution, the Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to tackling extremism wherever it occurs, emphasizing unity in the face of security threats.
