FG Begins Rural Housing, Farming Communities Project

The Federal Government has launched a mass housing and farming settlements initiative aimed at improving rural security and increasing food production nationwide, beginning with Niger State.

The Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, in Abuja for the development of a farming settlement covering 100,000 hectares of land.
She said the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and is structured to combine housing development with agricultural productivity. According to her, the project is designed to create secure, well-planned communities for farmers while strengthening agricultural value chains and improving livelihoods.
Uzoka-Anite added that the scheme would address challenges such as insecure rural settlements, migration to urban centres and inadequate infrastructure, noting that the financing model blends public assets with private investment to ensure sustainability, job creation and long-term economic growth.
