Family Accuses Delta Police of Compromise as Youths Set Crime Scene Ablaze

Two hotels in Owhelogbo Delta State has been set on fire following the killing of Bishop Sunday Ogofotha at Century Home Hotel.

Ogofotha, who had traveled from Lagos for his brother’s funeral, was found dead in the hotel after being kidnapped and tortured. The hotel’s management initially denied his stay, but a search led to the discovery of his body.

Community members claimed Century Home is known for criminal activities, including kidnapping and murder.

They allege that police handling of the case is compromised, especially after the hotel owner was released despite suspicions of involvement in the clergy’s death.

The situation worsened when a police team from Asaba visited the crime scene on Monday, March 31 and local youths confronted them over the release of the hotel owner.

In response, angry youths set fire to the hotel and a nearby building.

Family members of the deceased, including Osama Omamoke Elijah, have called for the case to be transferred to the Inspector General of Police in Abuja, accusing the Delta State Police of misconduct.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Isoko North council, Godwin Ogorugba has condemned the violence, urging residents to allow law enforcement to handle the investigation.

The Delta State Police has yet to comment on the incident.
