Ese Gam Re-Elected as UPU President-General
Olorogun Barrister Ese Gam Owe has secured a second term as President-General of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) after winning 432 votes to defeat Chief Simeon Ohwofa, who garnered 178. The election held during the 94th Urhobo National Day celebration and the 2025 Annual Congress at the UPU headquarters in Uvwiamughe-Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori congratulated Gam and the newly elected executive moments after the results were released, commending the peaceful conduct of delegates and the orderly process. He urged the new leadership to consolidate past gains, strengthen unity, and advance development across the Urhobo nation.
Political observers note that Gam’s victory was widely expected, largely due to strong backing from traditional rulers and key stakeholders across the 24 Urhobo kingdoms. A royal endorsement earlier in the contest was seen as a significant boost to his campaign.
With the poll concluded, attention has now shifted to expectations from the new UPU leadership. Many Urhobo sons and daughters at home and abroad are looking forward to renewed efforts in cultural preservation, stronger community cohesion, and broader socio-economic advancement for the region.
