Akpoti-Uduaghan Responds to N200 Billion Defamation Suit Filed by Akpabio

Senator Natasha  Akpoti-Uduaghan representing Kogi Central has announced that she received a 200 billion naira defamation lawsuit filed against her by Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, alleging defamation related to sexual harassment claims.

SenatorAkpoti-Uduaghan expressed relief that the matter has been formally raised, noting that the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges previously declined to hear her case. The committee had cited an existing defamation suit brought by Senator Akpabio’s wife as the reason for not granting her audience, stating they could not intervene in a matter already before the courts.

However, due to Senate rules,Akpoti-Uduaghan was unable to proceed to court without first presenting her case to the Ethics Committee, the same panel that recommended her suspension, which she insists was illegal.

SenatorAkpoti-Uduaghan stated that this lawsuit now gives her the opportunity to publicly prove her claims of sexual harassment and to respond to the attacks she says followed her refusal to comply with inappropriate demands.  “See you in court” she stated.
