Edo Community Demands Justice After Youth Killed in Suspected Police Raid

Members of Enwan, Akoko-Edo LGA of Edo State, are demanding for swift justice after a young man named Cosmos was shot dead during a confrontation with unidentified men believed to be police officers from Ekiti State.

Community leaders allege the operatives, who arrived in a bus reportedly registered to Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, did not identify themselves and acted without coordination with Edo police. The Enwan Progressive Congress condemned the incident as an unlawful invasion.

A statement from the group’s chairman, Dr Steve Momoh, rejected claims that community youths were involved in criminal activity, calling such allegations defamatory and demanding a public apology.

Residents are calling for a full investigation by federal authorities and the release of the identities of those involved. They are also urging the Inspector General of Police to clarify rules governing inter-state operations to prevent future abuses.

The incident, which occurred under unclear circumstances, has sparked anger and condemnation from local residents and community leaders, who described the episode as an “unauthorised and unlawful invasion.”
