Edema Resigns Delta Waste Board Role, Sets Stage for APC Showdown in Warri South
Former Warri South Local Government Chairman, Matthew Edema, has stepped down as Executive Chairman of the Delta State Waste Management Board, a move that is already reshaping political calculations ahead of the 2027 elections.
In his resignation letter dated Monday March 30, Edema expressed appreciation to Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, for what he described as the opportunity to serve and contribute to the development of the state.
He explained that his decision to resign was in line with provisions of the Electoral Act 2026, which requires political appointees and holders of executive positions to vacate office before contesting elections.
Edema’s exit from the board is widely seen as a strategic move, setting the stage for a high-stakes contest within the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Warri South Constituency I ticket for the party’s nomination in the upcoming primaries.
