Delta Police Chief Issues Stern Warning Against Officer Misconduct
The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Abaniwonda Olufemi, has issued a stern warning to officers across the state, vowing disciplinary action against any involved in extortion or unlawful searches of mobile phones.
Speaking at a strategy meeting with senior officers in Asaba, the commissioner stressed the need for intelligence-led policing, respect for human rights, and strict professionalism, particularly ahead of the year-end security period. The session followed a nationwide directive from the Inspector-General of Police.
CP Olufemi said the force would not tolerate acts that erode public trust, including illegal detentions, unauthorised stop-and-search operations, and harassment of citizens. He instructed all commanders to ensure proper briefing and accountability measures during deployments.
As part of plans for the festive season, the police chief also announced heightened security operations in kidnap-prone areas and robbery hotspots, urging public cooperation and vigilance. He encouraged residents to report suspicious activity using the Command’s emergency line.
