Delta NUJ Mourns Death of DBS Broadcaster Vivian Nkechika

The Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has announced the death of one of its members, Vivian Nkechika, a broadcaster with the Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS), Asaba.

The announcement was made on Wednesday through a statement signed by the council chairman, Churchill Oyowe. No details were provided regarding the circumstances surrounding her passing.

Nkechika’s death comes barely weeks after the loss of another journalist in the state, Matthew Ochei of The PUNCHNewspapers, who passed away in early January and is scheduled for burial on February 19.

In reaction, the NUJ expressed deep grief over the loss, noting that it has further diminished the journalism community in Delta State. The union directed that activities on its platforms be suspended for at least 12 hours as a mark of respect.

The council called on members to use the period to reflect and honour Nkechika’s memory, noting that her absence will be deeply felt within the professional family.
