Delta Govt Promises Action After Ndokwa Power Protest

The Delta State Government has assured residents of Ndokwa Nation that efforts are underway to address the area’s prolonged electricity challenges, reiterating that the administration of Sheriff Oborevwori is focused on improving power supply across all communities.

The assurance came on Wednesday as protesters under the “Light Up Ndokwa Nation” campaign converged on the Government House in Asaba, calling for the immediate connection of their communities to the Okpai Independent Power Plant. The demonstrators, drawn from Ndokwa West, Ndokwa East and Ukwuani local government areas, pressed home their demand for steady electricity.

Receiving the protesters, Chief of Staff, Government House, Johnson Erijo, acknowledged their concerns and commended the peaceful nature of the demonstration. He stated that the government is engaging necessary stakeholders and putting measures in place to deliver a stable and reliable electricity supply to the region.

He pointed to key steps already taken, including the rollout of the “Light Up Delta” initiative and the signing of the Delta State Electricity Commission Bill, which provides the structure for electricity generation, transmission and regulation within the state. According to him, technical partners have also been brought in to drive implementation, with a focus on practical and lasting solutions.
