Delta Govt Accelerates Road, Drainage Projects in Asaba

The Delta State government is ramping up efforts to improve infrastructure in the capital, Asaba, by fast-tracking road construction, rehabilitation, and drainage projects during the dry season.

Chief Patrick Ukah, Director-General of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA), confirmed the move during a visit to several ongoing construction sites across Oshimili South and Oshimili North Local Government Areas on Monday. Ukah expressed satisfaction with the pace of work, stating that contractors are adhering to project timelines, with many expected to be completed by the end of Governor Oborevwori’s first term.

Among the key projects under inspection was the 1.468-kilometre flood control initiative at Ogbeilo/Ugbomanta Street, which includes a discharge drain stretching through Ogbogonogo Market to Otuogwu Bay. Other significant works include a 1.069-kilometre road network within the Delta Development and Property Authority (DDPA) Housing Estate, as well as major upgrades on streets such as Anyafulu Chinedum Street and Olikilli Layout in Asaba.

Other notable projects include the construction of Ajidua Road (2.250 km) in Okpanam, Bright Ndubuisi Street  (0.750 km), and Iella Minola Street (0.370 km). These developments are expected to ease traffic flow and improve drainage systems in the region.

Ukah commended the contractors for their efforts, while acknowledging challenges related to funding and technical gaps. He reassured the public that these issues are being addressed, with some projects slated for inauguration in the coming months.

“We are committed to ensuring the timely completion of these projects, and I urge contractors to maintain their focus,” Ukah said.

The accelerated infrastructure projects are seen as a key part of the state government’s urban development plan, which aims to enhance transportation networks and quality of life for residents in the capital city.
