Delta APC Rejects Call to Adopt Governor Oborevwori as 2027 Candidate
The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected a recent suggestion by Francis Waive, a member of the House of Representatives, that the party should adopt Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as its candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election.
Waive’s comments, made in a public statement, proposed that the APC should endorse Oborevwori as the sole candidate for the upcoming election. However, the Delta APC quickly distanced itself from his remarks, clarifying that Waive’s position was a personal opinion and not representative of the party’s official stance.

In a statement signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, the APC stressed that its 2027 gubernatorial candidate would be chosen through a transparent and competitive process, one that reflects the aspirations of the people of Delta State for genuine change.
“We want to make it clear that Waive’s position is strictly his personal view and does not represent the stance of Delta APC, its leadership, or its members,” the statement read.
The party went on to criticize the Oborevwori administration, calling it a “monumental disappointment” and accusing the governor of financial mismanagement and a lack of progress in key areas such as infrastructure, economy, and social development. Despite receiving more than ₦2 trillion in federal allocations, the APC argued that the current administration has failed to deliver tangible results for the people of Delta State.
Reaffirming its commitment to challenging the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the APC promised to offer the people of Delta State a credible alternative in the 2027 election. The party noted that it has a number of capable and qualified individuals ready to lead the state towards a brighter future.
The Delta APC called on its members and the general public to disregard Waive’s statement, stressing its determination to free Delta State from the shortcomings of the PDP-led government.
