DELSUTH Gets Key Accreditation For Surgery Program And Others
Delta State University Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH) in Oghara has secured national and West African accreditation for its surgery program and other courses. The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, made the announcement during a press briefing following a meeting with Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and senior hospital officials.
Dr. Onojaeme revealed that the hospital is also pursuing accreditation for other departments, including Internal Medicine, Radiology, and Community Medicine. He acknowledged the contributions of both the hospital management and the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) in driving these initiatives.
The Commissioner also noted that Governor Oborevwori has approved the purchase of a CT scan for the hospital, following its request for more equipment to enhance the facility. He added that Governor Oborevwori has pledged to expedite the provision of necessary medical equipment, including echocardiography and MRI machines.
Dr. Onojaeme further stated that the hospital’s improved financial self-sufficiency, in terms of increased internally generated revenue, has played a crucial role in its recent successes.
On their part, the hospital officials, led by the Acting Chief Medical Director, Dr. Awunor Nyemike, MDCAN Chairman Prof. Jude Uchendu, and State NMA Chairman Dr. Israel Adaigho, commended Governor Oborevwori for his commitment to enhancing healthcare in the state. They presented a plaque to the Governor in recognition of his efforts to improve DELSUTH and the healthcare system in Delta State.
