“Day of reckoning is coming” Amaewhule-Led Rivers Assembly Tells Governor Fubara
The Martin Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly has issued a strong warning to the state Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, stating that “a day of reckoning is coming” for his alleged financial mismanagement.
Amaewhule, during a solidarity visit from the National Assembly Caucus of Rivers State, accused the governor of financial recklessness, claiming that state funds have been misused. He warned that the actions would soon be scrutinised in detail.
Amaewhule also dismissed the legitimacy of individuals currently holding positions as Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, and Civil Servants, labelling them as “impostors” for failing to be properly screened and confirmed by the Assembly.
His comments come amid mounting political tensions in the state, with the opposition claiming that the governor has violated constitutional procedures. Amaewhule insisted that the state’s leadership must be held accountable, particularly as Rivers faces what he described as “a reckoning.”

The National Assembly Caucus, led by Kingsley Chinda, the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, supported Amaewhule’s stance, urging the state to uphold the rule of law and dismiss what they called unfounded criticisms circulating on social media.
However, the Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joseph Johnson, rejected these claims. He argued that Amaewhule and other lawmakers who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress in December 2023 have forfeited their positions in the Assembly, thus undermining their ability to speak on matters concerning the state’s governance.
Further developments are expected in the coming weeks.
