Chief of Army Staff Shaibu Redeploys Top Officers Amid Security Challenges
The Nigerian Army has announced a broad reshuffle of senior officers, aiming to strengthen leadership, improve operational efficiency, and enhance coordination with other security agencies. Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu approved new postings and appointments across commands, units, and training institutions, assigning officers to key operational, administrative, and instructional roles.
Among the notable changes, Major General Bamidele Alabi was appointed Chief of Policy and Plans at Army Headquarters, Major General Jamal Abdulsalam became Chief of Defence Operations, and Major General Peter Mala was posted to lead the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC). Several other senior officers were reassigned to head Corps, training schools, and joint task forces.
Shaibu urged the officers to leverage their experience and strategic foresight to sustain operational momentum, uphold discipline, and confront emerging security threats. He emphasized the importance of loyalty, integrity, and excellence in the Army’s mission.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who recently decorated new service chiefs, tasked them with intensifying efforts against terrorism, banditry, and organized crime, stressing that Nigerians expect results, not excuses.
