Boundary Dispute: Ogwashi-Uku Insists Case Still in Court

The Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom has pushed back against assertions by the Ibusa community that the Supreme Court has delivered a conclusive ruling on their boundary disagreement. Palace authorities stated that the dispute is still being heard at the Delta State High Court under Suit No. AKU/11/2024, making any claim of a final verdict premature. According to the kingdom, both communities remain parties to the ongoing case.

Tensions rose after Ibusa residents staged a protest at the Government House, urging authorities to enforce what they claimed was a Supreme Court judgment. Ogwashi-Uku responded that River Oboshi continues to stand as the historically recognized boundary and local government demarcation line. The kingdom cautioned that public demonstrations over matters before the court could disrupt the legal process.

It further alleged that certain survey documents have emerged in an attempt to extend claims to lands not covered in the existing suit. The community maintained that it has consistently opted for legal channels despite past frictions. It also clarified that issues surrounding the siting of Admiralty University are subject to a separate case before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Ogwashi-Uku welcomed the Delta State Government’s call for restraint and reiterated its resolve to allow the judiciary determine the issues at stake. The kingdom affirmed that it would rely on the courts for redress and expressed confidence that the rule of law will ultimately settle the dispute.
