Atiku to Join ADC Today Ahead of 2027 Election
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will on Monday, November 24, 2025, formally join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections. The move follows his decision to exit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and aligns him with the coalition of opposition forces positioning themselves against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Atiku is expected to receive his ADC membership card in Yola, Adamawa State, in what party insiders describe as the coalition’s biggest boost yet. His defection places him alongside other influential opposition figures, including former Senate President David Mark and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, who are working to consolidate opposition parties under the ADC umbrella.
Addressing supporters ahead of the formal declaration, Atiku said the growing political realignment in the country had made the ADC the new home for those seeking an alternative to the current government. He asked the crowd whether they would accept him into the party, receiving an enthusiastic endorsement from supporters who hailed the move as a new beginning.
His decision ends months of speculation over his political direction and raises fresh questions about the broader opposition landscape, particularly the level of commitment of key figures within the emerging coalition. Atiku expressed optimism that the new political front would reshape the country’s political future.
