“Asaba, Warri Will Be capitals of Anioma, Delta”, -Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said the proposed creation of an additional State in the South-South region, will see Anioma capital sited in Asaba, if Delta is affected.

Speaking at the South-South zonal convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Asaba on Wednesday, Akpabio suggested a restructuring plan in which Asaba would serve as the capital of the new Anioma State, while Warri would become the capital of the remaining Delta State.

He noted that his backing depends on regional consensus, stating he would support the proposal if it reflects the collective demand of the South-South.

Akpabio also argued that creating more states could boost development, provided the constitutional process is followed.

The push for Anioma State has long been debated, with proponents saying it would address regional imbalances and accelerate growth.

“See me dressed like this, it is distinguished Senator Ned Nwoko. He gave me the dress, when I came, I saw the way Deltans were dressed. I said why am I not dressed like that. He said no, because we want you to show that you support Anioma state. I said oh my God, what a trap!

“But if that is the only demand from the South-South, state creation, then I should be very glad to support it.

“Your Excellency the governor, if it is affecting Delta, let me tell you how it will be. For Anioma state, the capital will be in Asaba, then for Delta state proper, the capital will be in Warri. So it is not a problem.

“I don’t think we should be afraid, because the more states we have, the more the development. If it passes through in the various Houses of Assembly, it then means we have one additional state. It will definetely be good and progressive for the development of the South Eastern Nigeria. May God bless the proponents.”
