Anioma Monarchs, Olu of Warri Lead Push for State Creation at NASS

A high-powered delegation of Anioma traditional rulers, political leaders, and stakeholders, joined by a representative of the Olu of Warri, met National Assembly leaders on Wednesday to advance the long-standing call for Anioma State. The proposal is part of the ongoing constitutional amendment discussions.

The delegation stressed that the demand for Anioma State, with Asaba as its capital, has been a people-driven struggle for over 70 years. They emphasized that the movement enjoys wide grassroots support across communities and is not led by any single individual.

Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu welcomed the engagement and highlighted that state creation is a complex process. He said proposals would be evaluated on geography, historical and cultural ties, economic feasibility, and political realities, urging sustained dialogue among traditional institutions, lawmakers, and stakeholders.

Prominent rulers in attendance included Obi Henry Kikachukwu (Obi of Ubulu-Uno), Obi Charles Chukwunwike Anyasi III (Obi of Idumuje-Unor), and several others. Observers say the meeting signals renewed momentum for Anioma State as advocates intensify efforts at the national level.
