Ambrose Alli University Cancels Final Year Exams

Authorities at Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State, have cancelled the final year exams for students in the Faculty of Arts following disruptive celebrations by graduating students.

A statement from the university, issued by Acting Registrar Ephraim Ikharehon Isiraojie on Wednesday confirmed that the students’ actions violated a directive banning wild celebrations on campus.

The affected students, from the Departments of Mass Communication, English, and History & International Studies, were reportedly involved in reckless car displays, the use of sirens, spraying of money, and loud shouting, which also led to the blocking of key campus access roads.

Despite previous warnings, the management expressed concern that the students’ behaviour flouted the university’s policy.

“The graduating students were involved in car display, use of sirens, spraying of money, shouting and hooting within the campus and also blocked the access roads leading in and out of the university.” Isiraojie said in the memo.

The university added that a decision on when the cancelled exams would be rescheduled will be made at a later date.

The move is intended to send a clear message to other students that such behaviour will not be tolerated.
