AFRIMA 2026: Rema, Burna Boy, Phyno Secure Top Awards
Rema stole the spotlight at the 9th All Africa Music Awards, emerging as the biggest winner of the night with three major honours. The 24-year-old singer clinched Artiste of the Year, Best Male Artiste in Western Africa, and Best African Artiste in R&B/Soul for his global hit Calm Down, outpacing industry heavyweights Burna Boy, Davido and Wizkid.
The ceremony, held at the Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos, doubled as a homecoming celebration, with Africa’s music industry leaders converging in Nigeria to recognise outstanding achievements across the continent. Nigerian artistes dominated several key categories, reaffirming the country’s influence on the African music scene.
Burna Boy secured Album of the Year for No Sign of Weakness, while Phyno added to his decorated career with the Best African Artiste in Hip Hop award. Yemi Alade also earned honours, winning Best Soundtrack in a Movie, Series or Documentary for her work on the animated series Iyanu.
Rising talents were not left out of the celebrations. Qing Madi was named Most Promising Artiste of the Year, and Chella claimed the African Fans’ Favourite award, reflecting the strong appeal of Nigeria Nigerian acts and the growing depth of new talent shaping the continent’s music future.
