Delta Govt Orders Removal of Illegal Speed Breakers
The Delta State Government has warned that the installation of unauthorised speed breakers on public roads will no longer be allowed, stressing that offenders will face immediate removal of such structures.
During visits to rehabilitation sites in Ughelli South and Udu Local Government Areas, Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, raised concerns over traffic-calming structures installed without approval.
He warned that such speed breakers weaken road surfaces, disrupt traffic movement, and pose safety risks to motorists and pedestrians, stressing that only approved standards would be permitted on state roads.
To address the issue, Izeze said the ministry would commence public awareness campaigns through state-owned media, while unauthorised speed breakers would be removed. Contractors involved in illegal installations, he added, would be required to dismantle them.
The commissioner reaffirmed that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration remains focused on delivering durable, safe, and people-oriented road infrastructure, assuring that all ongoing projects are under close supervision.
