NNPC, Chevron Announce Success with Awodi-07 Oil Well Discovery in Niger Delta

Chevron Nigeria Limited and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited have achieved a key breakthrough with the successful drilling and discovery at the Awodi-07 exploration well in the shallow offshore of the western Niger Delta. Drilled between late November and mid-December 2025, the well has confirmed the presence of substantial hydrocarbon reserves across multiple reservoir zones, marking a significant step forward in the region’s energy development.

Situated in the western offshore basin of the Niger Delta, Awodi-07 has unlocked new potential for the joint venture’s asset base. This discovery plays a crucial role in enhancing the region’s oil production capacity, and both NNPC and Chevron are now focused on developing these reserves. Chevron holds a 40% stake, while NNPC controls the remaining 60%, with both companies collaborating on the next phase of exploration and production.

NNPC Group CEO Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari commended Chevron for its exceptional execution of the project, ensuring safety and efficiency throughout the operation. He emphasized that the success of Awodi-07 aligns with Nigeria’s broader energy strategy, which aims to increase domestic oil production and strengthen energy security. With this discovery, the NNPC-Chevron joint venture is poised to ramp up production to 146,000 barrels per day.
