Oborevwori Urges Grassroots Action Over Low CVR Turnout in Delta

With the second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise approaching, the Delta State Government has raised concern over the weak turnout recorded in the initial phase of the exercise across the state.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori made this position known at a voter sensitisation programme jointly organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission and the state government in Asaba, where he was represented by his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme. He noted that just over 76,000 registrations were recorded, a figure he said does not align with Delta’s population size or civic potential.

The governor called for an aggressive, community-based mobilisation strategy, tasking traditional institutions, political leaders, faith groups, civil society organisations, market unions and the media with driving awareness at the grassroots level.

He further urged youths and first-time voters to step forward, stressing that their participation is central to the future of democracy, while assuring that the state would continue to support INEC with a secure and enabling environment.
