Senegal Defeats Morocco To Win 2025 AFCON
Sadio Mane’s Senegal earned a 1-0 victory over Asraf Hakimi’s Morocco to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in a dramatic fashion on Sunday night in Rabat.
The match degenerated into chaos in the closing moments with Senegal’s goal disallowed for a foul before the referee awarded Morocco a controversial penalty minutes later.
Senegal coach Thiaw instructed his players to leave the pitch before they returned after about 20 minutes later.
Real Madrid’s Brahimi Diaz missed the resulting penalty with his panenka effort comfortably saved by former FIFA Goalkeeper of the Year and UEFA Champions League Winner, Édouard Mendy.
Pape Gueye scored a stunning goal for Senegal in the 94th minute of extra time to give Senegal the lead.
The 2021 AFCON Winners held on to seal the victory, winning their second Nations Cup trophy in five years.
