CAF Names Moroccan Referee for Nigeria–Egypt AFCON Playoff

The Confederation of African Football has selected Moroccan referee Jalal Jayed to take charge of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 third-place playoff between Nigeria and Egypt.

The fixture will be played on Saturday, January 17, at the Mohammed V Stadium, with kick-off set for 5 pm. Jayed will be supported by Zakaria Brinsi and Akarkad Mostafa as assistant referees, while Hassani Khalil will act as third assistant. Kenyan official Peter Waweru Kamaku has been appointed fourth official.

Video Assistant Referee duties will be handled by Algerian official Lahlou Benbraham, alongside assistants Haythem Guirat and Hamza El Fariq. Sinko Zeli will serve as referee assessor for the encounter.

Nigeria and Egypt, both former continental champions, head into the match after semi-final defeats and will battle for third place, with pride, ranking points, and tournament momentum on the line.
